Nigerian Federal High Court Orders Dismissal of Charges against Wilben and its Officers
The Honourable Justice Peter Lifu orders the dismissal of all charges against Wilben Trade Limited, its Chairman Mr. Marcus Wade and its CEO Mr. Andrew Fairie
Lagos March 11 2022: Today, the Lagos Division of the Nigerian Federal High Court accepted the application of the Federal Ministry of Justice to withdraw charges against Wilben Trade Limited, its Chairman Mr. Marcus Wade and its CEO Mr. Andrew Fairie concerning their alleged involvement in a fraud against Access Bank Plc.
Wilben’s counsel in Nigeria, Mr. Babajide Ogundipe, Partner with Sofunde, Osakwe, Ogundipe & Belgore, stated: “The charges against Wilben Trade Limited, its Chairman Mr. Wade, and its CEO Mr. Fairie could not be supported, either on the facts or the law, and we are pleased that the Federal Ministry of Justice has now withdrawn them and the case has been dismissed.”
Commenting on the matter, Wilben’s Chairman, Mr. Marcus Wade, said: “We are very pleased with today’s outcome which clearly exonerates Wilben, its officers and employees. Wilben has always categorically denied any involvement in fraudulent conduct and robustly defended itself against these false charges. Today’s result further substantiates the good reputation of our company and of Mr. Fairie who was not with Wilben at the relevant time.”
